Massimo Siragusa on the banal
I first saw the work of Massimo Siragusa at the World Press Photo 08 exhibit in Toronto last year. I fell in love with his photographs depicting Italian ‘leisure’ in what otherwise would be a very banal landscapes. Shot in bright sunlight, each image feels at once light and dull as almost all the colour is washed out except for a few tones that help give the image focus. One of my favourites is “A view from the Jonic coast” from his portfolio Solo in Italia.
